Browns' Jackson disappointed in Manziel, still yet to decide on QB's future

New Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson's comments about quarterback Johnny Manziel have been far from positive during his short tenure, and the 23-year-old's recent alleged misconduct has done nothing to change that.

Jackson appeared on ESPN Cleveland 850's "Hey Tony" show Tuesday and expressed his disappointment in hearing police were investigating a dispute last Saturday between him and his ex-girlfriend in Texas that involved a "possible assault."

"My general reaction would be disappointment," Jackson said, according to Tony Grossi of ESPN. "As I've said many times, I would like for the Cleveland Browns players to conduct themselves in a manner that represents the organization well. Obviously, that reflected differently on what we want to have happen. Obviously, it's a process that we’re going through and we'll continue to go through it."

Police are yet to determine if any criminal offense took place, but the concerns over Manziel's state of mind following the event were so great that police used a helicopter to find him after he was unable to be contacted.

It's just the latest off-field incident for the former first-round pick after a season full of controversies, leading to speculation that the Browns are finally done with the quarterback.

Jackson said he is continuing to evaluate Manziel - along with the rest of the roster - but that he will be taking these incidents into account when he makes a decision on his future.

"I think I'm getting more and more where I need to be as far as our team, exactly who they are," Jackson said. "Obviously, as I've said from day one, I'm going to continue to evaluate Johnny, just as I would any member of this football team. Obviously, there's other circumstances that you also have to evaluate when you're considering putting everything in the pot to make decisions as you move forward.

"But again, he's no different than any other player. We're going to continue to evaluate him as a football player and as a member of this football team."
