With 15 matches left to avoid a second relegation in a seven-year window, Newcastle United has reinforced its disappointing attack, signing Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia on loan from Roma until the end of the season.

With a meager 25 goals scored in 23 league fixtures, the Magpies are desperate to bolster its attack and provide depth to a core featuring Aleksandar Mitrovic, an injured Papiss Cisse, and Ayoze Perez.

The club's leading goalscorer is Anderlecht summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum with nine on the season, highlighting the need for a first-choice forward in Steve McClaren's squad.

The 28-year-old Ivorian international is on loan at CSKA Moscow after signing with the Serie A side last January on a four-and-a-half-year deal. Doumbia's brief spell with I Giallorossi was nothing short of underwhelming, as the tenacious forward scored just twice in 13 appearances, prompting his move to the Russian top-flight.

With the recent addition of Stephan El Shaarawy coupled with the summer addition of Manchester City loanee Edin Dzeko, it's unlikely that the robust Ivorian has a future in the Eternal City under Luciano Spalletti's watch.
