Magpies centre-back Mike Williamson has joined Championship side Wolverhampton on a permanent move after the Newcastle defender spent time on loan at the West Midlands club this season.

Williamson, 32, has signed at the Molineux Stadium on a one-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee, Newcastle announced Friday.

The Stoke-on-Trent-born Williamson joined the Magpies in 2010 from Portsmouth, making 150 appearances for the club in all competitions while playing a key role in the club's 2009-10 Championship-winning campaign.

Williamson was loaned to the Wolves in October and extended the move prior to being recalled by Steve McClaren's lot in December because of a dearth of fit defenders in the Toon squad.

Wolves are currently treading water mid-table, eight points adrift of a promotion playoff spot with 28 matches played.
