Dustin Byfuglien has been front and center in trade speculation all season, but it appears the Winnipeg Jets have no intention of parting ways with their star defenseman.

The Jets are looking to ink the pending unrestricted free agent to a contract extension, Elliotte Friedman reported during Hockey Night in Canada's "Headlines" segment Saturday night.

"There are a number of teams who would love to get him as a rental player at the deadline," Friedman said. "But the word everyone seems to be getting is they are going to take a real run at trying to sign him."

Byfuglien is in the final season of a five-year, $26-million contract.

The 30-year-old is enjoying yet another All-Star campaign, with 11 goals and 14 assists in 48 games.
