The last two teams standing in the Western Conference last year aren't adverse to doing business.

On Thursday, the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks swapped depth forwards, with Jiri Sekac landing with the defending Stanley Cup champions and Ryan Garbutt flying south.

Sekac has now been traded twice since signing a free-agent contract with the Montreal Canadiens last season after three in the KHL. He has three points in 22 games.

Garbutt, 30, was the last remaining piece the Blackhawks acquired in the Patrick Sharp trade. He spent much of the season on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, but proved ineffective with just six points in 43 games.

This is the second time Ducks general manager Bob Murray has offloaded a speedy forward who was recently acquired through trade. He sent Carl Hagelin to the Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend after a disappointing 43-game stint.

Sekac earns less in dollars, but will cost more on the cap with the Dallas Stars fronting half of Garbutt's $1.8-million salary.
