Patrick Kane recorded his first regular-season hat trick as the Chicago Blackhawks extended their winning streak to 10 games by stomping the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Friday.

The Blackhawks sniper entered the game having recorded two previous hat tricks in his career, both coming in the postseason.

Kane and linemate Artemi Panarin combined for seven points, while defenseman Brent Seabrook picked up two helpers of his own to push the Maple Leafs' losing streak to four games.

Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling was nearly perfect, turning away 28 of 29 shots to pick up his fifth win of the season.

With his three goals, Kane now moves two goals ahead of Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin for top spot in the league with his 28th of the season.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old padded his point lead over Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn to 14 before the Stars captain scored in a 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Should Kane maintain pace he could become the first American-born player to win the Art Ross Trophy.
