Rockies' Gonzalez open to being traded

Rafael Suanes-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Gonzalez fully understands that his time with the Colorado Rockies could soon come to an end.

The reported signing of Gerardo Parra to a three-year deal creates a surplus in the outfield, and Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has reportedly received a number of calls from teams looking to deal.

The 30-year-old Gonzalez - owed $37 million over the next two seasons - is the team's second-highest paid player and has long been rumored to be available.

"He needs to make moves," Gonzalez told Thomas Harding of MLB.com of Bridich. "I'm not going to get in the middle of that. If he has to move me or move anybody else for the best of the team, he needs to go ahead and do the best job he can as a GM."

Bridich called Gonzalez several days ago to discuss potentially adding Parra, in addition to asking how some of his teammates are doing. Gonzalez didn't, however, ask the GM whether it's possible he'll be dealt.

"I don't want to get in the way of the general manager doing his job, so I'm not going to ask him about me," Gonzalez said.

"I'm on the Rockies, and he's the GM, and that's what I know. That's the way I see it. That's the way I handle it. No, he could have called me five seconds later and said, 'We traded you,' and all I can say is, 'OK, I got traded.' That's part of his job."

The oft-injured slugger is coming off a career year in which he hit .271/.325/.540 with 40 home runs, 25 doubles, and 97 RBIs, claiming his second Silver Slugger award.

The Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles are among the teams linked to the Rockies since the Parra deal was reported earlier Tuesday.
