Report: Tigers targeting Rockies outfielders
The Colorado Rockies' reported signing of Gerardo Parra on Tuesday has turned them from buyers to sellers.
Ostensibly adding Parra on a three-year deal has created a surplus in the Rockies' outfield - and attracted no shortage of suitors to general manager Jeff Bridich's door.
With the Baltimore Orioles involved in "ongoing trade talks" with the Rockies, a source told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Detroit Tigers are also among the teams talking to Colorado, though no deal is close.
Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon, and Corey Dickerson are all reportedly in play for the Rockies, and the defensive versatility of all three makes each candidate an intriguing option for the Tigers.
2015 STATS
Player | GP | HR | OPS | WAR |
---|---|---|---|---|
Gonzalez | 153 | 40 | .864 | 3.1 |
Blackmon | 157 | 17 | .797 | 2.4 |
Dickerson | 65 | 10 | .869 | 0.5 |
The Rockies are likely looking for pitching depth in return for a bat after their starters posted a league-worst 5.27 ERA last season.
It was reported earlier this week that the Tigers have been discussing the possibility of signing one of Yoenis Cespedes, Justin Upton, Chris Davis, or Dexter Fowler.
Detroit could stand to land another outfielder with Anthony Gose, Cameron Maybin, J.D. Martinez, and Tyler Collins projected to head into spring training as the team's four outfielders.
