VIDEO: Remi Garde urges board to talk after angry scenes from Aston Villa fans

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has requested club owner Randy Lerner and chief executive Tom Fox talk with fans after tensions boiled over at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Chants of "You're not fit to wear the shirt" rained down on Villa players in the 1-1 FA Cup third round draw, and things became more heated when two senior players allegedly told their own fans to "fuck off." The Birmingham Mail reports that the pair could have been Brad Guzan and Joleon Lescott. Skipper Micah Richards, who had been substituted through injury, tried to calm matters with supporters from behind the dugout.

A sorry result against League Two opposition culminated with the squad receiving venomous abuse as the players made their way on to the team bus.

"This is something I asked from them a fortnight ago, or something like that," Garde said of requesting talks from the Villa Park board. "Not to take the pressure off me - if I didn't want the pressure I wouldn't have this job.

"It's more because I'm facing you (the media) every week but actually I know Villa from inside for only 10 weeks now.

"At some point I cannot explain and I am not in the position to judge what happened before and whether it was right or wrong because I wasn't here. At some point it is important that the Aston Villa voice is not only mine. This is not to avoid my responsibilities at all. I will do it as long as I am in this position at this club."

Crisis talks are apparently underway in New York between Lerner and Fox to address the situation, and it would be a significant turnaround if the former talked to the press following five years of silence.

Aston Villa returns to Premier League duty this Tuesday when it faces the tough visit of Crystal Palace. Garde's side will begin the day 11 points adrift of safety after 20 matches.
