The fruits of Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill's labor have paid off.
The club announced a five-year extension with the executive that will keep him under contract through 2022-23.

The Stars are the NHL's second-best team, with 29 wins and 62 points. In fact, no Stars team has ever been better through 43 games. Paced by offensive dynamos Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, the Stars lead the league with 148 goals. No other team's scored 130.
"In just over two years, Jim has helped instill a culture of excellence within our organization and extending that partnership to 2022-23 is vital for the direction of the hockey club," Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said. "From the day he stepped into this role, he has displayed tremendous decision-making in the re-tooling of our group and we're excited to build upon the foundation that has been laid. We feel he is one of the best general managers in our league and we are thrilled he is so committed to us."
Nill joined the Stars in April 2013, and immediately put his stamp on the team. He brought in Lindy Ruff behind the bench, and has pulled off a massive trade in each of the last three summers, turning the Stars into the offensive juggernaut they are today.
"First and foremost, I want to thank the Gaglardi family and (president and CEO) Jim Lites for their commitment to what we are building," Nill said. "I've said over and over again, just how special of a group we have here in Dallas, and developing and maintaining a winning organization is something I look forward to over the next seven years. My wife, Bekki, and I love the area and we truly call it our home."
