Tulane QB Tanner Lee to transfer

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

With new coach Willie Fritz and his option-based offense coming to Tulane, starting quarterback Tanner Lee has decided to transfer out of the program.

Lee started the last two seasons with the Green Wave, throwing for 1,639 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015.

"I have asked for and been granted my release from Tulane University and plan to transfer," the redshirt sophomore said in a Twitter post Thursday. "This was the hardest decision I've made thus far in my life and want to thank Tulane University for the great opportunity over the past few years."

Fritz's option offense relies heavily on quarterbacks rushing the ball, and considering Lee has rushed for minus-287 yards, including sacks, the last two seasons, his decision to transfer seems appropriate.
