Capitals' Carlson could play this week
Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson could return to the lineup this week, head coach Barry Trotz said Monday, according to CSN's Chuck Gormley.
Carlson's out with an undisclosed injury, and could suit up on the Capitals' road trip, which stops in Boston on Tuesday, Brooklyn on Thursday, and Manhattan on Saturday.
The 25-year-old got off to a scorching start after a career season in 2014-15. His 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) in only 34 games rank him sixth among defensemen in scoring. He plays a lot, too, almost 25 minutes a game.
Carlson's teammate Brooks Orpik, out since Nov. 10, is also joining the club on the trip, although he'll likely only be providing moral support.
Barry Trotz says Brooks Orpik will also join Caps on 3-game road trip. Could skate but not expected to play. #CapitalsTalk

Carlson's missed the last four games. The Capitals have gone 2-1-1 without him.
