The news came just one day after the 20-year-old was assigned to the AHL, and later Sunday, general manager Steve Yzerman released a statement regarding the situation with the 2013 third overall pick:

"We acknowledge, via communication from his agent, Jonathan Drouin's request to be traded. Moving forward, my sole intention is to act in the best interest of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey club."

Yzerman goes on to say that Drouin is expected to report to practice with his AHL teammates Tuesday morning. The forward is not in the Syracuse Crunch lineup for Sunday's game against the Toronto Marlies.

Drouin has eight points in 19 games with the Lightning this season.
