Report: Bordeaux's Henri Saivet unsure about Newcastle move

Newcastle United's alleged attempts to bring Henri Saivet to St James' Park have hit a snag, with the Bordeaux winger concerned about its lowly position in the Premier League table.

The Senegalese has his pick of numerous clubs in January or the summer transfer window, reports the Newcastle Chronicle's Lee Ryder, and would prefer to represent a team playing in Europe rather than one scrambling for its top-flight status.

Newcastle chief Graham Carr, who is responsible for bringing in a host of former Ligue 1 players to Tyneside, including Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran, is understood to have been in conversation with Saivet's representatives for some time, but Bournemouth and Southampton currently look like preferable destinations for the 25-year-old.

Saivet isn't the only player on manager Steve McClaren's shortlist, with a new striker the priority. Defender Mike Williamson and Coventry City loanee Gael Bigirimana may be sold to free up space and funds for new recruits.
