One day after announcing Jaroslav Halak was dealing with an upper-body injury, the New York Islanders placed the goaltender on the injured reserve, and recalled Christopher Gibson from the AHL.
Halak made 27 saves in a 5-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday, and was placed on the IR retroactive to that night. He has a 10-6-3 record in 20 games this season.
Thomas Greiss is expected to get the start Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs but Gibson has been strong in the minors this year, posting an 11-5-3 record and a .928 save percentage with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
