Report: Howard, Zimmerman linked to PEDs

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, and free-agent catcher Taylor Teagarden have been listed among several athletes linked to performance-enhancing drugs.

On Saturday, The Huffington Post named the three major-league players based on an undercover report by Al-Jazeera titled "The Dark Side," which is set to air Sunday.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is the centerpiece of the report, which was conducted by British hurdler Liam Collins.

According to The Huffington Post, a number of athletes, including Howard and Zimmerman, received "Delta-2, a hormone supplement that is 'steroidal in nature' but is not an anabolic steroid."

The Huffington Post also reports there's a video with "a stunning scene" of Teagarden openly discussing his use of PEDs, although the specifics of the drug he used aren't described.

Howard, a three-time All-Star and former National League Rookie of the Year and MVP, is the most recognizable of the names listed. He belted 357 home runs over his 12-year career, and helped the Phillies win the World Series in 2008.

Zimmerman has spent his entire career with the Nationals, hitting .283/.349/.475 across 11 big-league seasons.

Teagarden is an eight-year MLB veteran with 180 games under his belt.
