On any given night, in any one of the NHL's 30 rinks, something special can happen. The past year provided no shortage of memorable on-ice moments, highlighted by the following five goals.

Morgan Rielly vs. the Oilers

The Toronto Maple Leafs certainly appear to have mined a gem in defenseman Morgan Rielly, who went end-to-end before finishing this play with a filthy toe drag and wrist shot into the back of the Edmonton Oilers' net.

Semin from his stomach

Things didn't work out for Alex Semin in Montreal, but the Russian forward made quite an impression in his final days with the Carolina Hurricanes, somehow managing to score a no-look, backhanded goal from his stomach.

The goal marked Semin's fourth-last in the NHL before he headed home after being waived by the Canadiens.

Tarasenko goes Wild

One could make a list solely off of Vladimir Tarasenko's body of work, but this one stands out because it came in a playoff game against a defensively solid Minnesota Wild squad.

Ovechkin starts things off with a bang

Alex Ovechkin entered the 2015-16 season as the winner of the past three Maurice Richard Trophies as the league's leading goal scorer. He wasted no time working toward a potential fourth, dropping this stunner on Cory Schneider and the New Jersey Devils in his first game of the season.

Malkin's spin-o-rama

There must be something about playing the Oilers, because Pittsburgh Penguins star center Evgeni Malkin rounds out the list with this devastating spin-o-rama backhand past Anders Nilsson.

Extra points for the steal to kick off the play.
