The new overtime format continues to outpace shootouts as the primary way of deciding games past regulation.
Of the 114 games that have needed more than 60 minutes this season, 78 (68.4 percent) have been decided within the five minutes of three-on-three overtime, including each of the last 10, according to NHL public relations.
Last season, when four-on-four overtime was still used, only 44.4 percent of games were decided by goals scored in the extra frame.
Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere lead all players with three overtime goals apiece.
