In quotes: The soap opera that was Jose Mourinho's 2nd stint at Chelsea

Stamford Bridge won't be the same without Jose Mourinho's colourful remarks.

Mourinho, who parted company with Chelsea by mutual consent on Thursday, was an endless source of amusement, regardless of the Blues' form. He wore his heart on his sleeve at press conferences, providing a stark contrast to the generic ramblings of most Premier League managers. His choice of words and refreshing honesty often landed him in trouble, and there were times where his comments were so outlandish, decoding them was damn near impossible.

Here's a collection of quotes that capture the soap opera that was Mourinho's second stint at Chelsea:

On being appointed as Chelsea's manager for the second time - June 10, 2013

"I am the happy one. Time flies. It feels like it was a couple of days ago but it was nine years ago (when I first arrived). Since then, a lot of things have happened in my professional life. I have the same nature, I am the same person, I have the same heart and I have the same emotions relating to my passion and my job, but I am a different person."

On there being a 'campaign' against Chelsea - Dec. 28, 2014

"There is a campaign against Chelsea. I don't know why and I do not care. Everybody knows it was a penalty. The referee made a mistake, people make mistakes and he made a big mistake. He is a good referee and a good guy, he is young, he has years and years of football ahead of him but it is a big mistake."

On criticism from Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness after Chelsea's elimination from Champions League - March 13, 2015

"Maybe because of diet and maybe the quality of the products we are eating, but memories are getting shorter. Because, you know, when Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness speak about it, it's because they are having a problem for sure.

"Jamie stopped playing a couple of years ago and, in two years, he has forgotten everything he did on the pitch. Mr. Souness also, but he stopped playing a long time ago. I coach Benfica after he left there so I know a lot about him, so much about him. But I have had a certain kind of education, not just in football but in life, and I prefer to laugh.

"Envy is the biggest tribute that the shadows do to the man. It's about life."

On suggestions Chelsea is 'boring' - April 26, 2015

"You know, 'boring' I think is 10 years without a title: that's very boring. You support a club and you're waiting, waiting, waiting for so many years without a Premier League title, so that's very boring. But maybe they aren't singing at us. Maybe, when you're the home side and you want to win a game but you take your No. 9 off (with six minutes remaining) ... maybe the home fans want to see (Danny) Welbeck and (Olivier) Giroud up front together.

"We had a very good experience. The 'boring' team are the second highest scorers in the Premier League, and the team with the best goal difference.

On Chelsea winning 4th Premier League title - May 3, 2015

"We've shown everything since day one. Everything football demands from a team we have had. We had fantastic attacking football, fantastic domination, high percentages of ball possession, low percentages when we let the opposition have the ball strategically and times when we have defended amazingly well.

"We did everything the team needs to do. That's why we're champions. That's why we deserve it. Everybody knows that. The people who have a big face to say we don't deserve it are the ones who, in my country, we have a saying for: the dogs bark and the caravan goes by."

On being 'betrayed' by his players after losing to Leicester - Dec. 14, 2015

"One of my best qualities is that I can read the game and identify the strengths of the opponent and tell my players that. Big frustration to accept the goals because my work was betrayed, if that is the right word."

"Some of my players are not at their right level. That is hard to watch. Last season I did phenomenal work, I brought them to a level that they are not really at ... Day by day in training I have no complaints with them. But is it frustrating to see what they are doing in training and what they do in matches? Clearly yes."
