5 people who will be most pleased with Jose Mourinho's firing

Jose Mourinho was adored by Chelsea fans, but outside of Stamford Bridge it was a different story - the polarizing Portuguese never had trouble making enemies thanks to his vast array of unflattering comments about others.

While his sacking may not have been met with the same relish as fans from rival clubs, there are some within the game that will likely be cracking a smile after hearing of the change at Chelsea.

Eva Carneiro

On August 8, after the curtain-raiser to this campaign, Jose Mourinho's usually masterful attempts to deflect attention away from his squad went all wrong. Chelsea wasn't particularly good in a 2-2 home draw against Swansea City, so he decided to turn eyes to his medical team by claiming they were "impulsive and naive" in tending to Eden Hazard when the Blues were chasing a win.

Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn acted as they should have at Stamford Bridge, and Mourinho was left with accusations of sexism and wide criticism from the medical profession.

Rumours began a week or so ago that former club doctor Carneiro could return to her old role at the club, and now with Mourinho ousted that likelihood has no doubt increased. A chance to return to the job she loved, with her ill-educated tormentor no longer at the helm.

Kevin De Bruyne

Like Steve Sidwell before and Loic Remy now, Kevin De Bruyne was at risk of falling into obscurity at Chelsea. The supremely intelligent midfielder was initially signed from Genk by Andre Villas-Boas, but it was after his sacking, and the subsequent brief spells of Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez, that Jose Mourinho came in.

He never handed De Bruyne the opportunity he promised, and sold him months later. Since his lucrative summer move to Manchester City from Wolfsburg, Mourinho was worked to further tarnish the Belgian's reputation, describing him as "an upset kid, training very bad."

His seamless transition back into English football has shown he is in fact a diligent operator, and he often takes on a leadership role at his new club. Mourinho's sacking has proven many right or wrong - and De Bruyne is one of its greatest victors.

John Terry

On the face of things, it seems ludicrous that John Terry would be pleased with the exit of Mourinho. The skipper has enjoyed so many successes under the Portuguese.

But in the past Terry has operated best with a cheerleader. Di Matteo is not a particularly good manager, but at the time he was the ideal man to allow the squad to sail on its own narcissism under the captaincy of its most vain, Terry. Chelsea won the Champions League.

The former England international doesn't take criticism well - as his poking fun of Robbie Savage showed - and when Mourinho withdrew his support by saying he had been "betrayed" by his squad, Terry's ego was no longer being stroked.

An interim manager who, much like Di Matteo, can come in and lick the wounds of Chelsea's stars seems likely - something which is ideal for Terry.

John Stones

Never has there been a more natural heir to Terry's spot in defence. It still looks likely John Stones will end up at Chelsea, but the Everton man must be pleased he won't be joining the blame-game at Stamford Bridge.

A move in January would be costly - with the injection of television money due in the summer, it is set to be the most inflated and frantic winter window yet - but it would provide Stones with a bedding in period under an interim manager.

Players have crumbled under the expectations at Chelsea after a move - ask Ian Wright how it affected his son Shaun Wright-Phillips. An initial target of consolidation rather than a title race would alleviate much of the pressure for Stones.

Arsene Wenger

Mourinho has never been on Arsene Wenger's Christmas card list.

Once accused of being a "voyeur" by the Portuguese, the Arsenal manager instead became the subject of incessant digs and tiresome comparisons during Mourinho's second tenure in the Premier League.

It is hard to imagine Wenger didn't meet this news with a sly smirk.
