Top 5 moments from Mourinho's 2nd stint with Chelsea

While few would have expected Jose Mourinho's second spell with Chelsea to end in such dramatic fashion when he returned to Stamford Bridge in 2013, his penchant for making both positive and negative headlines was all too predictable, making the Portuguese bench boss the centre of attention on many occasions.

As such, there is much to look back on from his time at Stamford Bridge.

Here are the top five moments from Mourinho's second stint with Chelsea:

Winning the title

Following a trophy-less first season back at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho's team had all the trademarks of his past championship-winning sides during the 2014-15 campaign. It was evident early on in the season the Blues were quickly evolving into the runaway favourites to win the league.

Chelsea looked destined to win its first top-flight crown since 2009 after dominating performances separated Mourinho's men from the pack and vaulted the team to the Premier League summit, a position the Blues would enjoy for virtually the entire season before offically winning the title with three matches remaining in the season.

Tottenham thrashing foreshadows future struggles

Tottenham's annihilation of Chelsea on new year's day was the first significant crack in the armor and, in hindsight, the beginning of the end for the Portuguese gaffer.

The result came at a point when losses were a rarity at Chelsea after only sustaining one defeat through 19 games heading into the contest. The embarrassing beat revealed the deficiencies in the team's backline that a majority of clubs seemingly discovered this season as Harry Kane led the charge in Tottenham's 5-3 mauling.

Mourinho, Wenger reignite feud

Mourinho and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger didn't waste much time renewing their rivalry.

The first significant blow came from Mourinho's corner when he labeled the Arsenal boss as a "specialist in failure" for his inability to win the Premier League in over a decade. The bad blood between them boiled over at Stamford Bridge when a heated exchange on the touchline resulted in Wenger pushing Mourinho during Chelsea's 2-0 win.

Carneiro debacle

Perhaps the most bizarre and delusional of all Mourinho's sagas involved Eva Carneiro, when, late in the opening match of the 2015-16 season against Swansea, the bench boss went ballistic at the team doctor for simply doing her job and treating an ailing Eden Hazard on the pitch. Carneiro subsequently left the team following Mourinho's outlandish public outburst, and has reportedly filed a lawsuit for wrongful dismissal.

The dreaded vote of confidence

The writing was on the wall when owner Roman Abramovic announced that Mourinho's job was safe in October following a string of poor results.

The gesture was designed to ease Mourinho's mind, but, as many predicted at the time, was ultimately the first legitimate sign that a change in the manager's box was on the horizon.

The vote of confidence - triggered by questions about Mourinho's job security following a loss to Southampton - did nothing to stop the team's downward spiral as Chelsea went on to lose five of its next eight matches before Thursday's decision to bring the (second) Mourinho era to an end.
