76ers, coach Brett Brown agree on 2-year extension

The Philadelphia 76ers and head coach Brett Brown have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

Reports of an extension surfaced Monday - around the time the franchise announced the hiring of new chairman of basketball operations, Jerry Colangelo - however negotiations reportedly commenced before Colangelo's introduction.

The 54-year-old leader of the 1-22 Sixers has endured an unprecedented number of losses since joining the team during the 2013 offseason. Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie - who's been public enemy No. 1 in Philly for some time - has implemented what's been termed "The Process," and has given Brown lackluster talent to work with over the past couple of seasons.

Nevertheless, Brown - a disciple of San Antonio Spurs' bench boss Gregg Popovich - has maintained a diligent and admirably patient approach despite a 38-149 record spanning two-plus years in the "City of Brotherly Love."

Brown's deal ensures the Maine native will remain with the team through the 2018-19 season.
