Alabama's Derrick Henry takes home Maxwell Award
The most outstanding player in college football is Alabama running back Derrick Henry, who won the Maxwell Award on Thursday.
Henry also captured the Walter Camp Award for player of the year and the Doak Walker Award for running back of the year from the College Football Awards.
The trio of honors bodes well for Henry's Heisman Trophy chances, which will be given out Saturday night. The other Heisman finalists - Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson - were also finalists for the Maxwell Award.
Henry joins a list of recent Maxwell winners that includes Marcus Mariota, A.J. McCaron, Manti Te'o, Andrew Luck, and Cam Newton.
Henry, a junior, ran for 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide this year. Alabama is the No. 2-ranked team in the nation and is one of four teams left in the hunt for the national championship.
