Report: Memphis to name Arizona State's Mike Norvell its next head coach
Memphis is expected to name Arizona State's Mike Norvell the Tigers' next head coach, according to multiple reports.
Norvell, 34, served as the Sun Devils' offensive coordinator for the last four seasons. He'll be formally introduced Friday at a 4:30 p.m. press conference.
University president Dr. M. David Rudd got the ball rolling Wednesday, posting a cryptic message on Twitter revealing Memphis had hired a coach, though he wouldn't reveal the individual's identity.
Norvell has been with Arizona State since 2012, and is a poster boy for high-octane offense. The Sun Devils averaged 37 points per game in his first three seasons and 34 points this year.
He replaces Justin Fuente, who took the Virginia Tech gig, after he revived a once-dormant Memphis program that has set a school record for wins over a two-year span (19).
