Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher will miss at least six weeks of action after undergoing surgery on his left hand Monday, the team announced.
The 23-year-old fractured two fingers after blocking a shot by New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk on Sunday.
Gallagher was off to a great start to the season with 19 points in 22 games.
The team also announced Tuesday that forward Torrey Mitchell would miss another 7-to-10 days with a lower-body injury suffered Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes.
