Anthony Davis uncertain vs. Thunder after leaving Tuesday's game

New Orleans Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis exited Tuesday's 115-98 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first quarter while clutching his left shoulder.

He was ruled out of the game, but made the trip with the Pelicans to Oklahoma City, where they'll play the Thunder Wednesday night. His status for the contest is uncertain, according to coach Alvin Gentry.

It's unclear how Davis got hurt. He set a seemingly harmless screen against Nuggets rookie Emmanuel Mudiay and grappled with Danilo Gallinari for a rebound before leaving the game.

Injuries continue to plague the 22-year-old phenom's young career. He has yet to play 70 games in any season, and he already missed two games earlier this year with a hip strain. Davis also missed time around the All-Star break last season with an injured shoulder.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, have been ransacked by injuries this season. Tyreke Evans, Norris Cole, and Quincy Pondexter have yet to play, while the likes of Jrue Holiday, Alexis Ajinca, Omer Asik, and Kendrick Perkins have been in and out of the lineup.

New Orleans came into Tuesday's contest with a 1-9 record, and while the season is young, the Western Conference remains unforgiving. Conceding so much ground in the standings early on could make it extremely difficult for the Pelicans to return to the playoffs.

Davis leads the Pelicans in points (25.5), rebounds (9.3), and blocks (2.8), while playing 36.1 minutes per game.
