Jake Matthews def. Akbarh Arreola via 2nd-round TKO (doctor stoppage)

Akbarh Arreola almost upset the Australian apple cart. The key word here is "Almost."

Arreola came close to finishing blue-chip Aussie prospect Jake Matthews with a massive head kick and multiple submission attempts in the opening round of their bout at UFC 193 on Saturday night.

Unfortunately for Arreola, Matthews not only survived the onslaught, but seemed emboldened by it, eventually reversing position and landing heavy ground-and-pound as the first round came to a close.

Matthews rode that momentum into the second stanza, taking Arreola down and carving his face up with some big punches and elbows from full guard.

With Arreola's eye bloody and swollen heading into the third round, the ringside doctor wouldn't let him answer the bell, securing an anti-climactic TKO win for Matthews.

Kyle Noke def. Peter Sobotta via 1st-round TKO

Kyle Noke roasted Peter Sobotta's ribs.

After spending nearly two minutes dinging Sobotta with kicks from the outside, Noke planted a front kick into Sobotta's midsection, causing the German to release a pained scream before crumpling to the mat. Noke wasted little time and pounced on his prone foe, hammering away with punches until the referee waved him off at 2:01 of the opening stanza.

Spectacular stuff from the Australian veteran, who now enjoys his first two-fight winning streak since 2011.

Gian Villante def. Anthony Perosh via 1st-round KO

Not exactly a great homecoming for Australian Anthony Perosh.

Gian Villante transformed poor Perosh into a sentient heavy bag, picking "The Hippo" apart with heavy, pin-point shots before flooring the Aussie with a crushing straight right hand.

Before Villante could unleash any more punishment, referee Greg Kleynjans rushed in to save a dazed Perosh, mercifully putting an end to the fight at 2:56 of the opening stanza.

Danny Martinez def. Richie Vaculik via unanimous decision

It wasn't pretty, or wildly entertaining, but Danny Martinez used aggression and wrestling to outpoint Richie Vaculik to kick off the FS1 prelims for UFC 193.

The wilder, more aggressive fighter, Martinez piled up the points with hard strikes and volume despite throwing the sloppier combinations, and when the more technically sound Vaculik started landing shots of his own, Martinez would use his wrestling to drag the bout to the floor.
