France's Lassana Diarra confirms cousin among dead in Paris attacks

France and Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra has confirmed that his cousin is among the 129 reported dead in Friday night's terrorist attacks on Paris.

Diarra played 79 minutes in the friendly against Germany at Stade de France. Like teammate Antoine Griezmann, whose sister escaped the horror at a downtown concert hall, Diarra had a direct connection to the shootings that took place across the French capital.

The 30-year-old announced via Twitter that his cousin, Asta Diakite, was killed. In English, the post reads:

Following the dramatic events yesterday in Paris and in Saint Denis, it's with a heavy heart that I awake today. As you may have read, I was personally affected by these attacks. My cousin, Asta Diakite, was among the victims of one of the shootings that took place yesterday, as were hundreds of other innocent French people. To me, she has been a landmark, a source of support, a big sister. In a climate of terror, it is important for all of us who are representatives of our country and its diversity, to speak and to remain united against a horror that has no color, no religion. Together, let's defend love, respect and peace. Thank you all for your testimony and your messages, take care of you and yours, and may our victims rest in peace.

The bloodshed reached countless lives as the death toll continues to rise. A Paris prosecutor told reporters in a briefing Saturday that 352 people were injured, with 99 of them in critical condition.
