Cousins says Kings need to resolve 'in-house issues'

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

DeMarcus Cousins has experienced his fair share of losing with the Sacramento Kings over the past five seasons, never once reaching the 30-win mark since entering the league in 2010.

So what's going to turn Sacramento's fortunes around this year? On a roster chock full of new faces and larger-than-life personalities, perhaps clearing the air and getting everyone on the same page would do the trick.

“We’ve got some issues in-house we need to figure out," Cousins said following a 106-88 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night at Sleep Train Arena, according to CSNBayArea.com's James Ham.

"I feel like when those issues are fixed, the winning will come."

Cousins, 25, later indicated that a players-only meeting may be in order.

The Kings are losers of six straight games following the defeat to San Antonio, pushing their record to a dreadful 1-7. Cousins had averaged a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds on 42 percent shooting through the first seven outings.

Cousins has openly clashed with head coach George Karl in the past, although the two have indicated on numerous occasions that their relationship is a lot stronger than it once was. It appears the issues Cousins is referring to apply mainly to the roster and not Karl, though.

"Right now, it's probably a little angry and frustrated and confused," Karl said of his locker room.

Cousins didn't drop names when acknowledging the team's behind-the-scenes problems, but did remain optimistic that everything will turn around if the players can become a cohesive unit.

“Just to make it clear, I believe in every single person in this room," Cousins said. "We’ve just got to stay together."

Sacramento's next opportunity to end its losing skid comes Wednesday night when the Kings host the Detroit Pistons.
