Report: Peyton Manning has torn plantar fascia in right foot

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Manning was battling plantar fasciitis, which is an inflammation of the tissue on the bottom of the foot, but the condition worsened, according to Schefter.

It's unclear how much time, if any, Manning will miss. His brother, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, battled the same injury in 2009 and was able to play through the pain. However, Schefter notes that a partial tear is almost always more painful to play through than a complete tear.

Manning was added to the Broncos' injury report last week with foot and rib cage injuries. He received treatment for both Saturday and was active for Sunday's game, but was benched after completing 5-of-20 passes for just 35 yards and four interceptions.

Head coach Gary Kubiak admitted afterward that Manning probably shouldn't have played.

"I'm disappointed in myself, this is on me," Kubiak said. "I probably should have made a decision not to play him in the game. I needed to make probably that tough decision there.''
