Penguins win, but Kessel quiet in Toronto return
Oddly enough, Phil Kessel did his talking off the ice.
Aside from a smattering of boos, at times, when he touched the puck, it was a relatively noiseless return to Toronto for the polarizing Pittsburgh Penguins winger Saturday night.
The longtime Toronto trigger man was held off the scoresheet, and was limited to just a single shot on Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier, but was once again a winner on Air Canada Centre ice - a rarity last season - as the Penguins romped over Toronto 4-0.
Kessel was his typically indifferent, impervious self in conversation with reporters both before and after the game - a tone most prevalent when the volume scorer was asked about Toronto's decision to not acknowledge his return.
"I don't care, to tell you the truth. I could care less," he said, according to Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press.
Kessel, though, wasn't the only one to be silenced in this snoozer.
The Maple Leafs, as a team, were held to a season-low 21 shots, while Penguins captain Sidney Crosby failed to muster a single shot attempt, or register on the scoresheet for the ninth time in 11 games.
