Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry played a near flawless game against the New Orleans Pelicans in a 134-120 victory at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday.

The 2015 NBA MVP scored 53 points on 17-of-27 shooting from the field, 8-of-14 from 3-point range, and a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe. He also dished out nine assists, grabbed four rebounds, and stole the ball four times in 35 minutes.

Curry becomes just the fifth player in NBA history to score at least 53 points and hand out nine assists in a game, joining Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tony Parker, and Michael Adams, per Basketball-Reference.com. He's also the first player since 2011 (Carmelo Anthony) to have at least 48 points on just 24 shots.

The complexion of the game changed drastically in the third quarter when Curry went on his scoring barrage. His 28 points were a career-high for a quarter, and two more points than the entire Pelicans team (who had a one-point lead at halftime) put up in that span.

That caps the highest scoring quarter of Steph Curry's career, 28 points.

After the game, teammate Marreese Speights praised Curry's unworldly performance.

"Give that man MVP already," Speights said, according to ESPN's Ethan Strauss.

The Warriors are now 3-0 to begin the campaign, with Curry's 53-point outburst making him the fifth player to score 50 or more points within the first three games of a season, per ESPN Stats and Info.

It also marks the fourth straight game the 27-year-old has scored at least 39 points against the Pelicans, with his first two coming in the Warriors' first-round sweep of New Orleans in last year's playoffs.
