Knicks' Afflalo could miss opener with hamstring injury

Arron Afflalo, who was expected to start at shooting guard for the New York Knicks, could miss Wednesday's opener against the Milwaukee Bucks with a left hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

Afflalo - a prized offseason acquisition - missed practice Sunday after an MRI revealed a strain, and is currently listed as day-to-day. The 30-year-old, who signed a two-year, $16-million contract during the summer, also missed time with a similar injury earlier in the preseason before aggravating the hamstring in Friday's preseason finale against the Boston Celtics.

While he's yet to be ruled out for the opener, Afflalo sounded like he might need more than just a game off when asked Sunday about his recovery timeline.

"I want to say I guess I just have to give it another two weeks or so, but it's hard to judge," Afflalo said, as reported by Begley. "I'm just going to go based on how I feel and with what the medical staff tells me."

Afflalo, a consistent 3-and-D threat from the wings when healthy, averaged a disappointing 10.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists on a pedestrian true shooting percentage of 53.3 with the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers last season.

Missing Afflalo would leave the Knicks thin in the backcourt, with sophomore Langston Galloway, rookie Jerian Grant, and Sasha Vujacic - who hasn't played an NBA game in over 1 1/2 years - as potential replacements in the starting five.
