John Cena's fifth reign as WWE United States Champion came to an end at the "Hell in a Cell" pay-per-view Sunday, courtesy of a returning Alberto Del Rio.
With Zeb Colter by his side, Del Rio emerged to begin the show and answer Cena's U.S. Open Challenge for his title.
Following a back-and-forth affair, Del Rio finished off the champ with a Backstabber and a kick to the face to keep him down for the 3-count.
Del Rio last competed in the squared circle for WWE during a "Main Event" taping on Aug. 5, 2014, losing by submission to Jack Swagger. He was released by the company two days later "due to unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee."
The 38-year-old is a former two-time WWE Champion and two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
