Rangers extend win streak to 8, match Canadiens for best record

The New York Rangers needed a shootout to extend their winning streak to eight games, defeating the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers used shootout goals by Mats Zuccarello and Dan Boyle to place them in a tie with the Montreal Canadiens for the best record in the league.

The game looked like it could be a goal-scorer's paradise after both teams were able to connect with power-play goals within the first seven minutes of the game, but following Erik Karlsson's marker to knot the game at 1-1, the goaltenders took over.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 of 23 shots directed his way, while Craig Anderson bounced back with 33 stops on 34 shots after allowing a whopping seven in his previous game against the Nashville Predators.

The game marked the sixth shootout for the Senators, the most of any team this season, while the Rangers collected their first win in the skills competition in just their second chance this season.
