NFL Betting Preview: Week 5 picks

Each week during the NFL season, theScore will handicap each of the week's matchups and offer up a three-pack of picks.

Arizona Cardinals (-2.5) at Detroit Lions

The Cardinals are one of the best teams in football, and oddsmakers aren't treating them as such. The winless Lions get this one on a short week off a disheartening loss. They managed only six points in last year's meeting with the then-Carson Palmer-less Cardinals. Cardinals 30, Lions 14

San Diego Chargers (-3) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers had no business losing to the Ravens. They won't get the kinds of opportunities afforded to them in that one facing a strong Chargers squad. That the game comes on Monday night should help San Diego look ahead to next week's contest in Green Bay. Chargers 34, Steelers 17

Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5) vs. New Orleans Saints

If the Saints made their field goal near the end of regulation against the Cowboys, they'd be 0-4 ATS based on widely available lines. They're basically in rebuilding mode. This could be the week the Eagles' offense finally figures it all out. Eagles 41, Saints 24

Remaining Week 5 matchups

Houston Texans (-3) vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are a below-average team with an above-average quarterback, and at the moment, Andrew Luck isn't able to give them the edge at the position that he normally does. Texans 24, Colts 20

Jacksonville Jaguars (+2.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last year's first quarterback off the draft board faces this year's first quarterback off the board. They've both thrown six touchdown passes through four games, but Jameis Winston has five more turnovers. Jaguars 23, Buccaneers 17

Buffalo Bills (-2.5) at Tennessee Titans

The Titans are coming off their bye and the Bills are coming off a loss, but the better team here is clear. Bills 27, Titans 14

Cleveland Browns (+6.5) at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens just aren't that good this year, and building a margin won't be easy, even without the services of Steve Smith Sr. Ravens 20, Browns 17

Washington Redskins (+7.5) at Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons stomped on the Texans in Week 4, but in their three previous victories needed to overcome a deficit in the second half. Falcons 31, Redskins 28

Chicago Bears (+10) at Kansas City Chiefs

The Bears are a very different team with Jimmy Clausen on the sideline. Chiefs 27, Bears 21

New England Patriots (-8.5) at Dallas Cowboys

Bill Belichick takes away what his opponent does best. He's going to make Brandon Weeden beat him, and that won't happen. Patriots 37, Cowboys 21

St. Louis Rams (+10) at Green Bay Packers

This season, the Rams have wins over the Seahawks and Cardinals, and losses to the Redskins and mostly Ben Roethlisberger-less Steelers. They save their best football for their biggest opponents. Packers 30, Rams 24

Cincinnati Bengals (-3) vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Bengals are rolling, and the Seahawks are in rough shape. If Andy Dalton doesn't throw this one away, the Bengals could make this ugly. Bengals 24, Seahawks 13

Oakland Raiders (+4.5) vs. Denver Broncos

The Raiders enter this game with fewer question marks on offense than the Broncos, which sounds strange to say. Denver's defense is rock solid, though. Broncos 20, Raiders 19

San Francisco 49ers (+6.5) at New York Giants

The 49ers are bad, but the Giants aren't this good. 49ers 23, Giants 19
