Report: Trail Blazers buy out Mike Miller
The Portland Trail Blazers have freed up a roster spot and some salary by coming to terms on a buyout agreement with Mike Miller, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
The 35-year-old shooting guard, who was due to make $3.3 million this season, will become an unrestricted free agent and be able to sign on with a contender - likely for the minimum - rather than languish on the rebuilding Blazers.
Miller was traded to Portland from the Cleveland Cavaliers in July, in a deal that allowed the Cavs - and, subsequently, the Blazers - to unload Brendan Haywood's non-guaranteed $10.5-million contract, as well as create two trade exceptions, for the price of two future second-round draft picks.
The Blazers were never expected to keep him. At the time the trade was completed, Miller was reportedly drawing interest from the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Dallas Mavericks. In the wake of the buyout, the Denver Nuggets have also expressed interest in signing him, according to Charania and gone so far as to formally offer a one-year deal, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
The 15-year veteran struggled in 52 games with Cleveland last season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds, while shooting just 32.5 percent from the field, and 32.7 percent from 3-point range.
