Cardinals' Holliday passes concussion tests after taking pitch off helmet
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday didn't show any signs of a concussion after being hit in the head with a pitch from Dan Haren during his pinch-hit plate appearance in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
"I'm fine," remarked Holliday after undergoing concussions tests.
Haren's errant pitch spoiled Holliday's highly anticipated return to the lineup, though, as the 35-year-old had been relegated to the disabled list since July 30 with renewed problems in his right quadriceps.
Limited to a career-low 65 games this season, Holliday noted ahead of Friday's series opener that there are still "hurdles to clear" before he can return to left field.
"I'm not interested in getting hurt again," Holliday told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'm not coming back before they tell me I'm out of the danger zone of re-injuring it."
