Plekanec isn't waiting by the phone for Canadiens to call about contract extension

Tomas Plekanec is entering the final year of his contract this season, and his agent hasn't had any discussions with the Montreal Canadiens about an extension.

And Plekanec has no plans to reach out to his employer about his future, writes The Canadian Press' Stephen Whyno.

"I'm not going to ask them if they want me. If they want me, they would call, I guess," Plekanec said (although Whyno writes that it was a tongue-in-cheek comment).

"Should I call and ask, 'Do you want me here?' I have a phone number. I think it's up to (general manager Marc Bergevin). If he wants me, I'm sure he'll call the agent and start talking."

Plekanec will make $5 million this season, and is coming off a productive 2014-15, when he scored 26 goals and added 34 assists in 82 games. He scored a goal and had three helpers in 12 postseason games.

The center signed a six-year, $30-million deal in 2010. He'll be 33 on Oct. 31.

"It's not up to me," Plekanec said.

Your move, Montreal.
