Steven Gerrard enjoying life of a 'Z-lister' with Galaxy in Los Angeles

Imagine walking down the road, going unnoticed, a Champions League winner and former captain of an iconic Premier League club hardly raising a brow.

Well, Steven Gerrard doesn't have to imagine anymore. He lives it.

The former Liverpool talisman of a decade is loving his new celebrity status (or lack thereof) in Los Angeles, where, as he tells Hello! magazine, he couldn't be happier.

"I've gone from not being able to walk down a street without being stopped every five minutes to being a Z-lister out here and that’s cool," Gerrard said. "I love it."

The 35-year-old has one goal and three assists in seven starts with the LA Galaxy, which is currently in first place in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer.

But more important to him is his development off the pitch as a dad and family man. He feels more confident in the U.S., where he can go out with his three daughters without worrying.

"We can take them to the park, the beach, fairgrounds, water parks and be there for six hours and I might hear one person say my name and they’re not even sure if it’s me, so I just smile," Gerrard said. "The kids have been shocked I’m around and can do more things with them."

The Christmas break is even more liberating. Gerrard, who is used to playing through the winter break in the Premier League, won't have similar obligations in MLS.

"We're going to have a house party in Liverpool and it’ll be nice to have a couple of beers like everyone else can," he said. "Then we’ll go away for New Year, which we’ve never been able to do before."
