Brandon Jennings says he's fine with coming off the bench

Despite developing a reputation for being trigger-happy, Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings says he'll do whatever his team needs.

In keeping with that theme, Jennings addressed the Pistons' battle at point guard on The Point Game Podcast, specifically in regards to Reggie Jackson, who received an $80-million contract this summer.

To outsiders, the Pistons created a controversy by stacking two starting quality point guards. But Jennings appears fine with Jackson taking his starting spot.

"My main thing is just to get healthy," Jennings said, as relayed by Steve Schrader of the Detroit Free Press. "Hey, if I have to come off the bench and be the sixth man or whatever, I'm fine with that. Man, I just want to play basketball again. I just want to get back on the court and have fun."

Jennings was enjoying a strong campaign with the Pistons before he succumbed to a torn Achilles. Shortly thereafter, his team traded for Jackson, who picked up right where Jennings left off.

The overlap at point guard has spawned trade rumors involving Jennings. He carries an affordable $8.3-million expiring deal, and the Pistons could look to flip Jennings for more wing depth. The team was linked to Tim Hardaway Jr., who was instead traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the NBA draft in June.

However, if the two can co-exist, Jennings could be an asset. When healthy, he is a potent scorer who thrived in head coach Stan Van Gundy's spread pick-and-roll system. If he were moved to the bench, Jennings would instantly become one of the most lethal sixth men in the league.

Still, Jennings will cross that bridge when he gets to it. Right now, he's simply focused on getting healthy.

"I don't know if I'll be ready for training camp. I don't know for sure. But I'm definitely going to take my time through training camp and also through the preseason. I probably won't be back to myself until at least around December. That's a for sure."
