IndyCar racer Justin Wilson is currently in a coma and in critical condition with a severe head injury following a crash at Pocono Raceway Sunday, IndyCar Series announced.

The 37-year-old was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital hospital after a crash at the ABC Supply 500.

The crash happened with 21 laps to go when leader Sage Karam lost control of his car and spun into the wall. Debris from Karam's car spread all over the track, with one piece appearing to strike Wilson's car.

Wilson was believed to be knocked unconscious by a nosecone and his car drove straight into the left wall.

Wilson is currently undergoing further tests.
