PHOTO: Dani Alves will sport the No. 6 shirt at Barcelona next season
Barcelona right full-back Dani Alves has inherited the No. 6 shirt after teammate and club legend Xavi Hernandez left for Qatari outfit Al Sadd.
The Brazilian defender wore the No. 22 shirt in the last few seasons in honor of another one of his teammates, Eric Abidal, and has now taken over the number worn by Barcelona's former captain. He wore the No. 2 shirt when he first joined the club in 2009.
"My challenge on this occasion is to defend a very special number at this club just like No. 22," Alves captioned in Spanish under an Instagram photo announcing his new number. "There are many people who contribute greatly to the career of an athlete, above all on a personal level. The greater the challenge, the greater my desire to defend it, because no challenge is too big if enough people are committed.
"My name is Dani Alves and my number is six!"
