Morris twins seek new grand jury in aggravated assault case
The defense attorneys representing Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris claim prosecutors presented "false and misleading evidence" in their ongoing aggravated assault case.
As a result, the players' lawyers have asked a Maricopa County (Arizona) Superior Court judge to return the case to a grand jury, Anthony Marroquin of AZ Central reports.
The Morris twins are facing charges of aggravated assault after a man named Erik Hood claimed the pair attacked him outside of a Phoenix-area gym in January. The twins pleaded not guilty to the charges in mid-May and were granted a personal recognizance bond.
The defense made two contentions in a motion filed on July 14, contending that the prosecutors did not share witness testimony that placed the Morris twins 100 yards "away from the fracas" at the time of the incident, and also that Hood changed his account of the story on multiple occasions, Coro reports.
The state has until Aug. 21 to respond to the motion.
