Ten days following a report that the Columbus Blue Jackets were in talks with free-agent defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, it appears as though there's still mutual interest, but the price definitely isn't right.

From Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch:

(Blue Jackets), with salary cap concerns, have a low-ball offer on the table for Ehrhoff. He wants to play for Columbus, but fit not right ... for now. (Blue Jackets) don't have salary cap room to meet Ehrhoff's present contract demands. If he sits on market, gets desperate, maybe there's a deal.

The Blue Jackets have approximately $3.6 million in available cap space, according to War On ice. Ehrhoff is coming off a one-year, $4-million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but complicating his valuation is the fact that he missed time in 2014-15 due to concussion.

Ehrhoff is also bringing in $857,143 through to the end of the 2027-28 season after being bought out by the Buffalo Sabres.

His agent has said the defenseman is amenable to another short-team deal, provided he's able to suit up for a competitive club.

After a busy summer, the Blue Jackets are shaping up to be just that - meaning a deal could very well be struck.
