LSU freshman Derrius Guice hospitalized after passing out at practice

Erich Schlegel / USA TODAY

LSU freshman running back Derrius Guice passed out during a team workout Wednesday and was transported to a Baton Rouge-area hospital, according to multiple reports.

University spokesman Michael Bonnette confirmed a football player had been taken to a hospital, but declined to reveal the name of the player or their ailment. LSU's strength and conditioning staff are currently supervising team workouts.

The hospitalization could simply be precautionary, sources said, according to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate.

Dellenger writes that the four-star recruit has developed a reputation for being a "workout freak. His wild and intense workouts have been well-documented."

Guice was named MVP of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January after catching a pair of touchdowns, one for 92 yards and the other for 61.

ESPN ranked Guice as the eighth-best running back in the class of 2015, as well as the third-best prospect in the state of Louisiana.
