Report: Cowboys' Greg Hardy to challenge any suspension longer than 2 games

Greg Hardy could soon find himself in a legal battle with the NFL.

Currently awaiting a decision on the appeal of his 10-game suspension, the Dallas Cowboys defensive end will fight in court any ruling that hands him a punishment exceeding a two-game ban, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

While Hardy's appeal hearing concluded May 29, there has yet to be an announcement from the NFL regarding a potential reduction to his suspension.

Hardy spent all but one game on the commissioner's exempt list last season amid a domestic violence case. The charges against him were dismissed after his accuser declined to take part in the jury trial, but the league's investigation determined Hardy violated the personal conduct policy.

Since receiving the 10-game suspension as a result of the violation, Hardy and his representatives have argued the NFL wrongly and retroactively applied its new personal conduct policy to Hardy's case.

Though a decision on the appeal can likely be expected before training camp starts, Hardy appears set to continue his case against the NFL if given a suspension more severe than the one he likely would have been handed under the NFL's policy that was in place at the time of the incident.

Hardy joined the Cowboys as a free agent this offseason, signing a one-year deal worth up to $13.1 million.
