Hornets' P.J. Hairston cited for 4 traffic violations

P.J. Hairston can't stay out of his own way.

The embattled Charlotte Hornets prospect once again found himself in some minor legal trouble, according to documents from The North Carolina Court System.

Hairston is facing a July 27 court date after being cited for four traffic offenses: Speeding, driving with expired registration, driving left of center, and driving with a revoked license. The offenses occurred June 18, the Mecklenburg County clerk of courts spokeswoman told Kami Mattioli from The Sporting News.

None of the charges alone are terribly egregious, but it continues a troubling pattern for the 22 year old.

Hairston was suspended during his time at North Carolina in 2013 after pleading guilty to a speeding charge after being cited for reckless driving, the third time that offseason he had been cited for a traffic-related issue. Those incidents, which included possession of marijuana, driving without a license, and driving a vehicle rented by a convicted felon, led to a four-game suspension and, later, Hairston leaving the program for the D-League.

The Hornets made Hairston the No. 26 pick in the 2014 draft but he's struggled to iron out off-court issues. He was involved in a physical altercation with a high-school player shortly after the draft, with assault charges eventually getting dropped, he reportedly hired an uncertified agent, and, once his rookie season began, he was benched multiple times for unexcused absences.

The shooting guard has been playing with the Hornets at the Orlando Summer League and left Tuesday's game with a left shoulder contusion.
