Twitter reacts to Laura Bassett's stunning 92nd-minute own goal vs. Japan
Laura Bassett was in tears as the final whistle blew on Wednesday, signalling a 2-1 win for Japan over England in the semifinals of the Women's World Cup.
Just when it looked like extra time was a certainty, Bassett got a touch on a ball that deflected off the crossbar and into her own net, promptly ending England's run at the competition.
It was a heartbreaking finish to what was an extraordinary match, and of course, a fair share of opinions were subsequently published on Twitter.
Here's a compilation of tweets that were written in the immediate aftermath of Bassett's own goal:
Well that is just the most insane ending possible.

Truly horrible way to go out for England, which had a fantastic tournament and played better than expected against Japan.
