The San Antonio Spurs paved the way for a potential maximum offer for LaMarcus Aldridge with a flurry of moves to start free agency.

The Spurs reached agreements with both Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, while also potentially securing the requisite cap space to sign Aldridge by shedding Tiago Splitter's deal in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks.

The union might be a mere formality at this point.

The Spurs reportedly met with Aldridge on Wednesday morning and, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, left the meeting still feeling like they're in the driver's seat.

The Spurs will have to do some careful managing of the cap to make it happen.

First, the Spurs have to wait on signing Green and Leonard. Currently, they're on the books as cap holds based on their minuscule 2014-15 salaries. They can sign their respective agreements once Aldridge signs.

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili would either have to retire, or, at the very least, re-sign at below their respective cap holds, which total $26 million. Finally, first-round pick Nikola Milutinov will have to sign an agreement to play overseas next season.

The Los Angeles Lakers also reportedly failed to impress in their meeting with Aldridge - possibly eliminating San Antonio's top competition for his services - while the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks are still set to meet with the star power forward later on Wednesday.

Another team to monitor in the Aldridge sweepstakes is the Phoenix Suns, who reportedly became more appealing to the free agent big man upon their agreement with center Tyson Chandler on Wednesday.
